Edinburgh and Glasgow Airports have reached record breaking numbers of visitors this summer, with July reports showing dramatic increases in passenger growth.
Glasgow Airport celebrated its busiest July in over seven years, processing 956,483 passengers in the month alone. The increase of 13.7% represented Glasgow’s ninth consecutive month of double digit growth. Edinburgh also enjoyed a record breaking number of passengers passing through its gates compared to last summer, a total of 1.2 million and an 10.3% increase on last year.
Gordon Dewar, chief executive of Edinburgh Airport said: “Our teams have worked hard to help passengers on their journey and we’re continuing to work hard to give our passengers the service they expect.
“It was only two years ago, we broke our first million passenger month and now in our peak we’ve grown by 20%. This is really pleasing, but it’s clear we’re going to have to invest further for next year as we anticipate more growth.”
For Glasgow, domestic traffic grew by 11.4%, with British Airways and Ryanair reporting strong demand for services to London.
Amanda McMillan, managing director of Glasgow Airport, said: “Not only did we welcome close to one million passengers in July, we were also classified as one of the fastest growing airports in Europe for the first half of 2015. Both of these factors underscore the significance of our exceptional growth this year.”
