As the New Year starts, Perthshire’s tourism businesses reflect on bumper year in 2014 thanks to national and international events which helped attract visitors to the region.

According to VisitScotland, around two million people went to 1,049 Homecoming Scotland events across the country during 2014.

In Perthshire, The European Festival of Brass drew the largest number of visitors to Perth Concert Hall, with 116,500 attending; whilst Dougie McLean’s annual Perthshire Amber Festival attracted a record 10,821 audience.

Festival director Jennifer MacLean is thrilled at its success. She said:
“We are delighted that our Perthshire Amber Festival was one of the featured Homecoming Scotland events. It has been described as an unbeatable music festival experience, and in its 10th year, broke all our records for attendance and economic impact”.

VisitScotland’s regional partnership director, Jim Clarkson, added:
“There really was no place like home for the people of Perthshire during 2014. We welcomed the world and, boy, did we have fun doing it!

The focus for the 2015 is now the Year of Food and Drink which is expected to achieve similar results for the country’s tourism. Businesses are urged to understand how they can get involved and benefit from the visitors which will be attracted to Scottish Food & Drink.
