Competition launched for a place on Executive Certificate in Event Management course

Date : 03/11/2014

The Edinburgh Institute, part of Napier University, has launched a competition for one lucky winner to win a place on this year’s Executive Certificate in Event Management course.

This three-day intensive programme is designed to provide the key skills and knowledge associated with the design and delivery of corporate, private and public events.

Delivered by the Edinburgh Institute: Festivals, Events and Tourism team, the course outlines industry best practice in the marketing, planning, conduct and evaluation of events.

Ideal for those already working within the industry, seeking to enhance their professional skill and knowledge base; it is also a great introduction for those who are looking to join the industry.

The intensive programme runs from 16 – 18 February 2015 at Edinburgh Napier University Craiglockhart Campus. The course covers:

• Event Planning Management, Monitoring, Control, Shutdown and Evaluation
• Project Management
• Risk Management, safety and security
• Marketing, PR and sponsorship
• Greening of Events
• Managing people
• Case studies presented by local event industry practitioners

Last year Amanda Kilburn, Business Development Director at The Bo’ness & Kinneil Railway won a place on the course and recommends it to others in the tourism industry. She said:

“I was looking for a course which would provide me with a broad overview of events management which would assist me in my role where I frequently manage large family events for up to 2000 people per day. The programme helps put academic theory into practice contextualising real life experiences and exercises on areas such as risk assessment. Attending the course gets you out of the office, making it easier for you to take time out to reflect on planning and other event related issues. It also offers the opportunity to meet people in the sector and develop connections.”

To win a place on this programme (worth £975) write a 300 word piece on why you should be chosen and how you would apply the learning for this programme back at your workplace. Entries should be emailed to p.skellett@napier.ac.uk by 5pm on Monday 1 December 2014.

Places are still available for the course and the applications deadline is Monday 26 January 2015.

Skills Development Scotland is also offering a 50% reimbursement of this course to those who are eligible through their Flexible Training Opportunities programme. Check the Skills Development Scotland website to see if this could apply to you.
