Focus on Festivals – June

There's something for everyone in June, from traditional Highland Games to Scotland's largest multicultural festival.

Event Date: 01/06/2014 - 30/06/2014

June gets off to a rousing start with the Voices of the Commonwealth Concert at the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall on 1 June when a 300-strong massed Scottish choir will be joined by choristers from across the Commonwealth for a special pre-Games charity concert.

Active visitors should head to the Tweed Valley for the TweedLove Bike Festival, 24 May-8 June, to enjoy bike racing, skills courses, ride-outs, skills jams, family days and after bike parties.

The Red Hot Chili Pipers are headlining this year’s Glasgow Mela in Kelvingrove Park on 7-8 June. The Mela is Scotland’s biggest multicultural festival packed with performances, kids’ activities, market stalls, food stands and, for the first time ever, a cinema marquee screening Bollywood films all weekend.

Summer is Highland Games season. If your guests miss the Royal Highland Show in Edinburgh from 19-22 June, there are plenty more. You’ll find a calendar of all the different Highlands Games taking place throughout June at the Scottish Highland Games Association website.

On 27 June it’s Pipefest Stirling when thousands of pipers and drummers march through the city to mark the 700th anniversary of the Battle of Bannockburn. The same weekend it’s Bannockburn Live, a two-day Homecoming Scotland 2014 signature event on 28 and 29 June at the National Trust for Scotland Battle of Bannockburn heritage site. There’ll be spectacular live battle action, music, storytelling, workshops for kids and a clan village where visitors can trace their Scottish ancestry.

Wave goodbye to June at the Portsoy Traditional Boat Festival, 27-29 June, a combination of history, crafts, music and, of course, sailing all set around beautiful Portsoy harbour.

This is just a small selection from the hundreds of things going on in April. Find more ideas on the Visit Scotland Homecoming website.
