New Loch Lomond Store to Showcase Argyll Crafts and Producers

The new store in the Loch Lomond-side village of Luss will showcase Argyll crafts and producers and aims to boost the visitor offering within the destination.

Date : 05/06/2014

Luss General Store in Loch Lomond opened its doors recently following a £200,000 investment by landowner Luss Estates Company, creating at least five new jobs and enhancing the village's position as a must-visit destination.

As well as significantly upgrading one of the village’s most recognisable and historic buildings, the shop will support local crafts, with an eclectic mix of unique and affordable items selected for visitors and local shoppers alike.

Luss General Store is the latest investment by Luss Estates Company. It follows the Estate’s £3.2 million transformation and launch of the Loch Lomond Arms Hotel in 2012.

Sir Malcolm Colquhoun of Luss Bt, Chairman of Luss Estates Company, said:

“Luss General Store is another step in building the economic prosperity of our local community. I am delighted that it has opened in time for the summer, and look forward to seeing it grow and develop into a significant contributor to the re-emergence of Luss as a high quality year-round destination.”

Producers set to feature in Luss General Store include Cardross based Wee Coo Company which specialises in hand-carved Highland cows, woodland animals and furniture; glass designers Glittering Trinkets of Garelochhead, and ethically produced, natural hand-made soap from Lomond Soaps. Luss General Store will also showcase exclusive items from elsewhere in Britain, including specially commissioned handmade mugs by Royal College of Art graduate Julian Dowson.

Luss General Store Manager Jan Williamson added:

“I am delighted to be part of this exciting new enterprise here in Luss. Scotland has a wealth of craftspeople and we are looking forward to introducing their beautiful, inspiring products to the hundreds of thousands of visitors who travel to Luss every year, as well as to local people shopping for gifts, whatever the occasion.”

Luss General Store is located on Pier Road, Luss, Loch Lomond, and is open seven days a week.
