As the days grow longer, we recommend some of the best spring events with lots of outdoor fun and some great arts events.

Here is April's pick of things to do around Scotland to suit most interests and ages.

The Edinburgh Science Festival returns for two week with hundreds of amazing talks, events, experiments and activities for all ages and levels of geekiness. Starts 5 April.

A whole host of Scottish traditions can be enjoyed throughout Arbroath during celebrations around Tartan Day, 5-13 April.

The Glasgow International Arts Festival kicks off in April with hundreds of fantastic events and exhibitions for all tastes happening all over the city.

For breathtaking spectacle, be sure to recommend the spectacular Beltane Fire Festival in Edinburgh, on 30 April.

The John Muir festival, which runs from 17-26 April, is a fantastic chance to celebrate the opening of the John Muir Way.

From Helensburgh through to Dunbar, along the John Muir Way, there is a fantastic programme of events ranging from night time light and sound artworks and live music to flag processions and seed-bombing.

For sheer exhilaration you can't beat a day at the races. The Coral Scottish Grand National race day will be held on 11 April at the Ayr Racecourse.

If your visitors are looking for a piece of authentic Scotland, a trip to the Orkney Ceilidh weekend on 11, 12 and 13 April is a must-do.
