Date : 14/10/2013

The Wish You Were Here research report recently published by Visit Britain, demonstrates the significant draw of live music and its potential to fuel tourism throughout the UK. The report also offers examples of successful campaigns as well as recommendations for working to develop this market further.

The report has also revealed that tourists attracted to Scotland for live music events are providing a significant boost to the Scottish economy, with data illustrating that festivals in Scotland attracted 60% of the total music spending by music tourists in Scotland, with approximately £62m spent at events such as Rockness and T in the Park.

Sandie Dawe, VisitBritain Chief Executive, said: "This report confirms that the UK's music scene has significant international appeal and that music tourists spend lots of money and travel across the whole of Britain".

"This will act as a catalyst for us all to ramp up our activity and forge better relationships with festival organisers, promoters, venues and producers to raise awareness of our amazing music scene across the world."

Music festivals such as T in the Park, which celebrated its twentieth anniversary this year, and the recent opening of Glasgow’s new 13,000-seater SSE Hydro arena, together with a thriving live music scene and a diverse range of music events and festivals across the country, are just a few examples highlighting the important role of music in Scotland’s cultural tourism, events and festivals offering; particularly as Scotland prepares to welcome the world in 2014.
