Latest VisitScotland Data Reveals Regional Visitor Trends for 2012

The latest visitor data from the latest VisitScotland report, Tourism in Scotland’s Regions 2012, provides valuable insights into domestic and international visitor behaviour across Scotland’s regions, offering statistics on visitor spend, visitor numbers, and hotel occupancy, as well as visitor preferences for Scotland’s cities, islands and beyond.

Edinburgh & the Lothians comes out top in the report in terms of spend, visitor numbers and hotel occupancy, peaking at 90% during August and September, while Glasgow & Clyde Valley ranks second, with the Highlands & Islands third favourite for visitors.

The data also suggests that Norwegians are loyal fans of Aberdeen City and Shire, with 35,000 visiting the region last year and spending £18m.  The island of Orkney has seen ‘staycationers’ spend the most amount time there, with UK visitors staying eight days compared to the average three days in the rest of the country.

The report also provides data on the top attractions by region, information on the accommodation used and purpose of trip amongst 20 different categories.
