Homecoming Scotland – an owner’s manual

We’ve heard about it, read about it, maybe even seen preparations for it, but just what is Homecoming Scotland 2014? Read on and boost your business over the next twelve months and beyond.

Date : 29/10/2013

Homecoming Scotland 2014 may seem like it’s happening to someone else, but it’s coming your way, in a big way. Homecoming is the biggest single, concerted effort to attract new and returning visitors to Scotland - people who already have a vested interest in being here.  How’s that for a warm market?

The Scottish Government is leading an armada of tourism organisations, business interests, local authorities and independent bodies all across Scotland. They’re co-ordinating hundreds of events, all themed to encourage visits and participation in celebrating everything Scottish.

"Next year, people from all across the globe with Scottish connections, and those without, will come to our country to celebrate with friends and family and enjoy the huge programme of events,” says First Minister, Alex Salmond.

The broad themes of Homecoming include events promoting activity, ancestry, creativity, food and drink, and natural Scotland. There will be a variety of celebrations, of Scotland's heritage, history and food and drink, throughout a twelve-month schedule that really does offer something for everyone in every corner of the country.

This should be the biggest promotion for Scotland, ever.

Fantastic expressions of culture such as Europe's biggest brass band festival will sit alongside the exciting commemorations of the 700th anniversary of the Battle of Bannockburn. Best of all, you can join in and get involved for free.
