Destination Media Hub to operate in Glasgow during 2014 Commonwealth Games

A home-from-home facility will be created for visiting UK and international press and broadcasters in Glasgow during the XX Commonwealth Games in 2014.

Date : 05/09/2013

Glasgow City Marketing Bureau (GCMB), VisitScotland and VisitBritain will jointly operate a Destination Media Hub (DMH) at the iconic IET Glasgow: Teacher Building in the city’s St Enoch Square as a home-from-home facility for visiting UK and international press and broadcasters who will be in Glasgow during the XX Commonwealth Games in 2014.

Conveniently located in the very heart of Glasgow city centre, the DMH will operate from Sunday, July 20 to Monday, August 4 between 8.00am and 8.00pm. It will serve as a 'one-stop shop’ for consumer and news media with facilities including destination information on Glasgow, Scotland and the UK, a large press working area, wifi access and a daily news conference programme.

It will be open to all 2014 accredited media as well as all other bonafide UK and international lifestyle, features, business and digital media who can register for access via Destination Media Hub, the bespoke, joint digital news room

The digital newsroom will also offer online access to the latest travel and tourism news, rich multimedia content – including HD B-Roll and high-res imagery – plus a range of exciting media offers and other useful resources.

Glasgow has successfully operated similar outlets during the city’s hosting of the UEFA Champions League Final in 2002 and the 2007 UEFA Cup Final. In addition, VisitScotland joined forces with GCMB in 2012 to operate a DMH at The Lighthouse during Glasgow’s hosting of seven Olympic football matches, while VisitBritain – in conjunction with colleagues at London & Partners – operated the high footfall London Media Centre for world press at One Great George Street during the 2012 Olympics and Paralympics.

Councillor Gordon Matheson, Leader of Glasgow City Council and Chair of Glasgow City Marketing Bureau, commented:

“The 2014 Commonwealth Games will have a global audience of more than 1.5 billion and there will never be a better time to showcase Glasgow’s sporting, cultural and event credentials on a global stage.
