Visitors to Fife are waking up to local taste sensations, as a cookery initiative helps accommodation providers to build on their culinary skills.

B&B and guest house owners in east and west Fife have already benefited from two ‘Fife Breakfast’ workshops to help them serve up great, locally-sourced morning meals.

These were so well received that the initiative is now offering second helpings. May will see the delivery of a ‘Level 2’ Fife Breakfast workshop, created by chef lecturers at the SRUC Elmwood Campus in Cupar.

“The project is aimed at people who are passionate about serving their guests good local food, and might be looking for some new ideas,” explains Viv Collie, of Fife Food Network.

“The Level 2 event has already attracted wide interest. We hope this will lead to future opportunities for further collaboration and promotion of quality food and drink experiences for visitors to Fife.”

Reaction from participants on the first two workshops was enthusiastic. “Lots of ideas for ringing the changes at our B&B breakfasts,” said one. Another added: “Inspiring – it’s very easy to get stuck in a rut or buy what is convenient.”

The Level 2 event will include professional tips on presenting buffet style food, and on plating up and presenting food. Modern twists on traditional breakfast dishes will also be featured.

The Fife Breakfast training sessions are being supported by funding from Fife Strategic Tourism Development Fund, Scottish Enterprise, the Scottish Government and the European Community LEADER in Fife Programme 2007-2013.
