ETAG Technology Conference 2015 Camera Obscura

Video interview with the Director of Edinburgh tourist attraction Camera Obscura

In this short video, we hear from Andrew Johnson, Director of popular Edinburgh tourist attraction, Camera Obscura, and what he has learnt from attending the Edinburgh Tourism Action Group (ETAG) event - Technology Solutions for Tourism Conference 2015.

The event which is now its fifth year brings technology and tourism businesses together to identify opportunities to use technology to ensure they meet the changing expectations of Scotland’s digital tourist.

Andrew Johnson comments on how the ETAG event has highlighted the importance of technology particularly in relation to marketing. He said:

“We are a strange mix of old and cutting edge technology at Camera Obscura, ranging from the camera obscura itself which is principally 2,000 years old to ‘Connect’ an x-ray machine that is very popular with visitors and allows people to see something which they may not remember swallowing!”

“So, being aware of new technology is really important from a marketing perspective, as it impacts the way people hear about attractions, not just for us, but for the whole of Scotland”.

Digital technology is developing rapidly and the tourism industry needs to adapt and capitalise on these changes, find out more by reading the Tourism Intelligence Scotland’s guide to Five Trends of the Digital Tourist.
